Aims & Objectives

  1. To Create Awareness among students regarding the scope and growth of Malayalam Language and Literature.
  2. To develop Creative and Communicative skills in Malayalam.


The Mar Thoma College Chungathara was established in 1981 under the great leadership of a Bishop of true Prophetic proportions:- The Late Rt. Rev. Easow Mar Timotheos Episcopa.As a Junior College, classes for Pre-Degree Course (Group I,II & IV)  was started on Oct 28, 1981. Malayalam was offered as Second Language. From 1982 onwards the Arts Group (Group III) was also offered .The College was upgraded to the Degree level in 1990 with B.Com course. In the next decade, Degree Classes in Physics, Economics, Polymer Chemistry & Botany were also started. Pre-Degree course was delinked from the College in 2000-2001.

Among the Students of the various Degree Classes, More than 60% opted Malayalam as second language for the Part II requirement.

Means of Evaluation

  1. Assignments are given on topics having social relevance related to Syllabus.
  2. In every semester each student gets 10-15 minutes for presenting their seminar paper.
  3. Group discussions are held every fortnight.
  4. In each semester a model examination and two internal examinations are conducted.

In Malayalam, the College Library subscribes 8 magazines and stacks 1200 books. There is no separate Department library for Malayalam.


Compiling the literary works of students, a Magazine in Malayalam is published (in manuscript) from each Class. The development of the literary skill in students is targeted.

Malayalam Literary Association

At least one meeting of the association is convened every month. Students gather for discussion, Paper presentation, Quiz Etc on literature. Mr. Maneesh Mohan and Miss. Priya. P are the office bearers for present Academic year. At present 52 Students are active members of the Association.
